There are many
natural regions, still intact from the weaknesses of the
civilization. One of such is the Upper Soča Valley. The Soča River
(or '' the most beautiful European river'', as the river was called
by the famous mountaineer Julius Kugy) ploughs its way through the
picturesque mountains. An unknown but marvellous world is hiding
just north of the town of Kobarid, behind the Ozben Hill.
Underneath the overhanging rocks of
the mighty Krn Mountain, about 6 kilometers to the northeast of
Kobarid, lies the village of Drežnica, surrounded by the
neighbouring villages of: Koseč, Drežniške Ravne, Jezerca and
Magozd.
This is a place where old manners
and customs are preserved through centuries to the present day. It
is the place where warmth lives; the place which attracts us by its'
pure nature and the place where you feel at home.
When a traveller drives up from the
valley, a wonderful landscape spreads out in front of his eyes. This
is truly a paradise for everyone who loves nature, mountains and
strolling in the fresh alpine air.
It is also a paradise for all those
who not only enjoy their walks, but also have an admiration for the
ethnological particularities, like the Drežnica Carnival. There is
also a special charm in the local alpine dairy farms, where local
cheese and curds are being made.

Greetings
from Drežnica |
Most visitors will be fascinated by
the mighty Drežnica church and the frescoes from the 15th century,
which can be seen in a small church near Koseč.
During World War I, the legendary
Isonzo Front was running over the mountain chain above Drežnica.
The museum collection in the village keeps the recollections of the
battles which were fought here, but you can also learn a lot here
about the history of the place and the way of life our ancestors
used to lead.
Natural sights are the crown of this
country: from gorges and waterfalls to fauna and flora.
Drežnica is an interesting place to
be in all seasons. In summer time, visitors can rest their souls in
making mountain expeditions through the southern part of the Triglav
National Park or taking a trip with mountain bikes. Those who are
more daring can enjoy hang-gliding or paragliding. The ''clear
mountain beauty'' - the Soča River with its affluents offers many
unforgettable adventures - if you like water sports or the famous Soča
trout fishing. In winter and in spring the ski slopes on the
mountain of Kanin nearby offer excellent conditions for skiing,
cross country skiers can discover the spaciousness of the Krn
Mountain chain, whilst alpinists can try out their skills on frozen
waterfalls. |
